The Friedrich air purifier is rated very high on the Consumer Reports website. These air purifiers are reasonably priced as compared to other manufacturers air purifiers. 

Before deciding on a Friedrich air purifier though, one should conduct their own research using third party consumer interest websites that are readily available and rate air purifiers. Using the information available, you can most effectively compare and contrast the features that are most important to your situation of many different air purifiers.

Air purifiers are tested and rated by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM).  The AHAM is an independent third part organization that tests and verifies air cleaner CADR (clean air delivery ratings) claims made by manufacturers. While Friedrich air purifiers do perform similar to the manufacturer's published specifications, other air purifiers such as the those manufactured by the Oreck company simply do not work as well as they are portrayed on television informercials.

The Friedrich air purifier catches the larger particles in the air as room air is drawn through the grill of the unit. Once the particles are caught in the grill, the electronic cell charges billions of microscopic particles as they pass through the air purifiers powerful electric field. The charged particles are attracted to the air purifier collector plates on the back side of the electronic cell rather than being fed back into your room. Therefore, in theory nothing but clean air is sent back through the carbon filter into the room. The carbon filter also helps to remove many common odors and fumes from the air as the air is circulated back into the room. 

Usually a musty smell is an indication of mold growing. To rid any area of a home from this musty odor the source must be found and removed. Once mold is attached and growing in a room or basement, the spores are no longer airborne and cannot be pulled into the air cleaner and removed from the air.  An air purifier will not rid a room of a musty order.

While Friedrich air purifiers perform well in a number of tests, many customers think that they are some of the least attractive air purifiers on the market.  It is a well engineered product but not necessarily considered to be a decorative item. If aesthetic appearance is important in your application, you may wish to consider other manufacturers than Friedrich air purifiers.
